Heavy Motor Vehicle Operator

Location: Fort Richardson, Alaska
Technica seeks to fill the position of Heavy Motor Vehicle Operator at Fort Richardson, AK.

  • Operates wheel vehicles and equipment over varied terrain and roadways in support of logistics operations.
  • Serves as MVO Heavy responsible for operating straight trucks (non tractor-trailer) of over 4 tons to transport diverse types of materials, furniture, equipment, hazardous materials.
  • Responsible for performing basic routine vehicle operational inspections and minor repairs.
  • Maintains documentation and files for transportation and turn-ins of hazardous waste material in accordance with company policy, local, state and federal regulations.
  • Overseas and checks proper loading and unloading of cargo on vehicles and trailers.
  • Based on type and nature of delivery and destination, may load or unload truck with or without assistance.
  • Based on specific guidance from supervisor, transports, prepares, and maintains documentation for serviceable and unserviceable turn-ins to DRMO.
  • Maintains and updates vehicle trip ticket, to include close liaison with Motor Pool personnel.
  • Executes supply discipline by checking, verifying, signing, inventorying, filing and obtaining signatures for materials, equipment, and supplies transported or received.
  • Maintains and abides by current and up-to- date procedures for loading, offloading and securing vehicle loads such as but not limited to small loose items, medium bulk items, and material handling equipment such as forklifts, warehouse tractors, and similar equipment.
  • Operates a variety of special truck adapted equipment such as, but not limited to winches, power tailgate, lift ramps, hoist, and classified destruction equipment, etc.
  • May be required to operate on a schedule maintaining record of pick-up and delivery of material and equipment.
  • Maintains current knowledge of daily after delivery servicing and operational inspection of vehicle.
  • Operates vehicles in a safe manner to include acquiring knowledge of local, state and federal safety/traffic laws, rules, ordinances and regulations.
  • Operates a wide variety of trucks and vehicles to include, but not limited to: dump trucks, water distribution trucks, fuel trucks, vacuum trucks, forklifts, and various other light and heavy utility trucks with or without trailers.
  • Corrects or reports all vehicle deficiencies and supports mechanics where necessary, make minor mechanical repairs, and keep truck in good working order.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Must possess and maintain, as a minimum, a valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a minimum Class “B”: endorsement.  Position may require obtaining an endorsement for HAZMAT.  
  • Minimum three years’ experience within past five years of operating trucks of over 4 tons.
  • Position requires frequent heavy lifting of more than 70 pounds and requires working while exposed to inclement weather.
  • Must be familiar with applicable local, federal and state traffic, driving, and overall vehicle operations laws and regulations.
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.  
  • Must be tactful and cooperative in dealing with others.
  • Subject to random drug testing on an unannounced basis.
  • Must possess a current state driver’s license
  • Eligible for and able to obtain a U.S. Government motor vehicle operator's permit for assigned class of vehicle.
