We are currently recruiting for the position of Heavy Equipment Mechanic/Inspector in Fort Irwin, CA

This is a short-term temporary position beginning in the middle of May 2018 and lasting approximately 3 weeks.  The work schedule is a 12-hour shift.  The compensation is $34.57 per hour.  Candidates outside the local area of Fort Irwin, California will be provided transportation/airfare, lodging, and per-diem.

• Analyze malfunctions and repair, rebuild and maintain power equipment, such as cranes, power shovels, scrapers, paving machines, motor graders, trench-digging machines, conveyors, bulldozers, dredges, pumps, compressors and pneumatic tools.
• Operate and inspect machines or equipment to diagnose defects, dismantles and reassembles equipment, using hoists and hand tools, examines parts for damage or excessive wear, using micrometers and gauges, replaces defective engines and subassemblies, such as transmissions, and test overhauled equipment to insure operating efficiency.
• Weld broken parts and structural members, may direct workers engaged in cleaning parts and assisting with assembly and disassembly of equipment, and may repair, adjust and maintain mining machinery, such as stripping and loading shovels, drilling and cutting machines, and continuous mining machines.
• Monitors work of less experienced mechanics
• Provides technical assistance in diagnosing problems beyond the capability of assigned personnel.
• Maintain a safe work record

• Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Must have a minimum of 3 years relevant experience.
• A good working knowledge of heavy equipment maintenance programs, policies, nomenclature, work methods, manuals, or other established guidelines.
• An understanding of the needs of the organization serviced.
• Analytical ability to define or recognize the dimension of the problems involved, to collect the necessary data to establish the  facts, and take or recommend action based upon application or interpretation of established guidelines.
• Eligible for and be able to obtain a U.S. Government motor vehicle operator permit for assigned class of vehicle.

Work Environment
Work is primarily performed on the site of a military base.

Physical Demands
This position requires sufficient physical ability, with or without reasonable accommodation, to perform work in a site maintenance setting; which includes, frequent interruptions, the ability to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time (2+ hours at a time), to work in cramped areas for prolonged periods of time (2+ hours at a time), to stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist, to lift, carry, push, and/or pull 40-70 pounds of weight, to climb in and out of military vehicles and related equipment, to work in all types of weather conditions to include intense heat, heavy wind, blowing sand, heavy rain, and snow and sleet, to operate tools requiring repetitive hand movement, to travel to other locations using various modes of private and commercial transportation, to verbally communicate to exchange information with or without accommodation, to see in the normal visual range with or without correction, and can hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
