Location: Port Hueneme, California
Technica LLC is accepting applications for the position of Woodworker to perform on a government contract with a place of performance at Port Hueneme, CA.
  • Constructs and repairs items such as boxes, crates, pallets, and storage bins from wood and wood substitutes. Studies specifications; and measures; marks; and cuts boards, using patterns, templates, rulers, pencil, and hand and power saws.
  • Fastens or installs parts, using hammer, nailing machines, coil machines, or power staplers. Containerizes items using prefabricated boxes, foaming machines and specialty work requiring fabrication of suitable containers from raw materials.
  • Repairs defective containers by replacing damaged parts.
  • Inserts wood bracing material, cardboard files, and felt pads in containers to prepare parts for shipment or depot condition Code A stockage.
  • May build crates or boxes around objects, using ruler, hand tools, electric and pneumatic tools, saws, sheet wrapping material and normally accepted trade materials or items.
  • May fabricate, repair, modify, and replace woodwork on vehicle sides and beds.
  • May apply preservatives to prolong wood life.
  • May pack, seal, band and apply markings or stenciling to crates and containers. All markings will be IAW the most current regulations and shipping policies and procedures.
  • Loads commercial and military vehicles with items packed and crated for shipment to local or worldwide destinations.
  • Operates forklifts up to and including 15,000 pounds lift capacity.
  • Understands and uses safety items and personal protective equipment (PPE) that is mandatory and actively supports the EHS safety program.

The ideal candidate must be extremely customer focused and capable of short range planning, analysis, and the ability to understand the processing of parts and also have the following additional requirements traits:
  • A good working knowledge of the governing supply systems, programs, policies, nomenclature, work methods, manuals, or other established guidelines.
  • An understanding of the needs of the organizations serviced and the overall mission concerns of those units.
  • Must be able to provide and generate reports through automation.
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • 2 years of related experience.  
  • Must be able to obtain base access.
  • Must be a US citizen.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Must apply a full range of knowledge of woodworking techniques to plan, construct, and repair standardized shipping and storage containers.
  • The candidate must have skill in measuring, developing, and laying out changes to existing container plans where specially shaped items require unconventional cradles, blocks, braces, or cushioning.
  • The candidate should be able to make standard joints and grooves such as dado, lap, rabbet, tongue and groove, miter cuts, and doweled edge joints required for secure and weathertight containers.
  • Woodworker must have knowledge of a wide range of packing methods and techniques to determine materials and methods required for standard container construction.
  • The candidate should have skill in using woodworking, measuring, and layout devices. Woodworker have skill in combining and modifying existing plans for conventional containers to construct irregular shaped containers.
  • The candidate should have skills in using standard woodworking tools, both manual and power, as well as pneumatic sealers, heat sealing and vacuum equipment, nail guns, and strapping tools.
  • Demonstrated knowledge to operate and perform required duties using US Army Logistical Information System and normally approved office computer automation equipment.
  • Woodworker must be able to analyze, plan and complete complex taskings with little to no supervision.
